Installation tasks

When the SambaNova Foundation Services Rack and DataScale racks are rolled to their location on the datacenter floor, perform the following tasks in sequence.

1. Basic installation tasks

Task Description Notes

1

Ensure that you’ve performed all site preparation tasks.

See Site preparation for Foundation Services Rack installation and the site preparation information for your SambaNova rack (SN40L, SN30, or SN10).

2

Inspect the rack for any damage that might have resulted from local handling or relocation within the customer facility.

Contact SambaNova customer support if you see any problems.

3

Leave the system on the datacenter floor for 24 hours under ambient environmental conditions before powering on the rack.

Allows the components to acclimatize to the environment, prevents the effects of sudden cooling or heating, and removes the possibility of any condensation accumulation.

4

Attach the bus grounding bars of all racks to the facility’s ground.

See the Grounding requirements document that you prepared together with your SambaNova representative.

5

Permanently attach the rack to the datacenter floor in its intended location using the tie-down brackets and bolts.

Consult your facilities staff about local requirements and about preparing the tie-down bolt holes and locations. At a minimum, lower each of the rack’s feet in each corner of the rack, and follow standard procedure at your site.

2. Cabling and interconnecting racks

Foundation Services Rack

Task Description Notes

1

Connect the datacenter network cable drop to the Juniper high-bandwidth data switch to ports 28-31 for LAG (see Network infrastructure requirements).

Ensure that the switch that is connecting to this Juniper high-bandwidth data switch is configured for a LAG.

2

Connect the data center access/management network cable drop to the dongle labeled SCS NET UPLINK on the left-rear vertical bar of the rack for the Lantronix serial console server management interface port.

See Lantronix serial console server components (rear view). This must be an access port (that does not tag packets) and is a member of the management VLAN.

3

Connect the second management network cable drop to the dongle labeled ACCSW MGMT UPLINK on the left-rear vertical bar of the rack for the out-of-band management interface of the Juniper 1GbE switch.

This must be an access port (that does not tag packets) and is a member of the management VLAN.

4

Connect the remaining trunked (VLAN tagged) access/management network cable drop to port 47 of the Juniper 1GbE switch.

Port 47 of the core access switch provides a trunked (VLAN tagged) uplink of the access and management VLANs. The exact configuration depends on the customer’s specific requirements.

5

Connect the two power cables from the PDUs of the Foundation Services Rack to the two 3-phase power sockets

See the Power requirements document that you prepared together with your SambaNova representative.

6

Observe the rack during power-on to ensure that there are no issues with the PDUs or other rack components. Determine whether any warning LEDs on the rack components are lit.

If warning or error lights appear, see the support knowledge base articles at https://support.sambanova.ai.

DataScale racks

Connection From DataScale rack To Foundation Services Rack

1

Connect the inter-rack data network cable drops to the Juniper high-bandwidth data switch to ports 27-30 for LAG (see Network infrastructure requirements).

For each DataScale rack, uplink from ports 27-30 using appropriate 400GbE QSFP-DD transceivers and matching Fiber or AOC cables.

Uplinks from each rack must go to specific ports on the core data switch. These ports are arranged in groups of 4 ports (0-3, 4-7, 8-11, etc), Each of the 4 ports in the rack uplink LAG group should be labeled and connected to the appropriate port.

2

Connect an inter-rack RJ-45 cable from the dongle labeled SCS NET UPLINK on the left-rear vertical bar of the rack for the Lantronix serial console server management interface port to the Foundation Services Rack.

Connect from the DataScale SCS Dongle port labeled SCS NET UPLINK

To the Foundation Services Rack access switch port for the appropriate rack using an RJ45 cable of the appropriate length. SCS uplink ports are sequentially allocated from ports 21 through 29 for DataScale racks 1 through 9.

3

Connect an inter-rack RJ-45 cable from the dongle labeled ACCSW MGMT UPLINK on the left-rear vertical bar of the rack for the out-of-band management interface of the Juniper 1GbE switch. to the Foundation Services Rack

Connect from the DataScale access switch Dongle port labeled ACCSW MGMT UPLINK

To the Foundation Services Rack access switch port for the appropriate rack using an RJ45 cable of the appropriate length. The access switch management ports are allocated sequentially from ports 31 through 39 for DataScale rack 1 through 9.

4

Connect an inter-rack cable from the access switch uplink port 47 to the Foundation Services Rack

Connect from DataScale access switch port 47

To the Foundation Services Rack access switch port for the appropriate rack using an RJ45 cable of the appropriate length. The access switch Uplink ports are allocated sequentially from ports 11 through 19 for DataScale rack 1 through 9.
