# Overview

SambaRack Manager is a tool for centralized **hardware administration** of customer-managed, on-premises SambaRack deployments. SambaRack Manager enables operations at four levels:

* **Rack**: A complete SambaRack unit, including nodes and networking components.
* **Node**: Individual SN40L nodes within a Rack (excludes networking components) unit.
* **Device**: Individual hardware components in a Rack.
* **Group**: A collection of Racks for batch operations.

See [What's in the Rack](/en/v1.2.0/sambastack/resources/sn40l-16-hardware-reference#what’s-in-the-rack) for more details.

<Note>
  SambaRack Manager is **not** used for administering Kubernetes or SambaStack software.

## Key capabilities

| Level  | Capabilities                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 |
| ------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Rack | Add, remove, and view racks in the SambaRack Manager inventory. For individual racks, view, add, modify, or remove installed components and their details. |
| Node | View all nodes and node details. Rename nodes in the inventory. Perform DC power operations (power on, power off, power cycle) on nodes or node components. |
| Device | Check firmware versions of specific devices. |
| Group | Create, rename, list, and delete groups. Add or remove racks from groups. View rack inventory within a group. Check firmware versions across all devices in a group. Perform DC power operations (power on, power off, power cycle) on all nodes in a group. |
